To & Fro!(tm) File Transmission/Reception Program
LAST UPDATED: 12/21/95
If you are looking for long documents on using this program, you
won't find them. To & Fro! is indeed the easiest to use file
transmission and receive program on Earth. Just follow these
steps and you will be bouncing files all over the country in an
afternoon.
To & Fro!(tm) has the ability to transmit export and import
files via telephone modem from your computer directly into any
other computer. Both of you must have a modem or fax/modem
installed). Your receiving or transmitting parties must have
either a computer with a telecommunications program capable of
sending or receiving Z-Modem Protocol transmissions, or another
copy of To & Fro!(tm). The latter method is preferred since it
totally automates the process.
INSTALLING TO & FRO!(tm)
1) First, create a sub-directory on your hard drive. Call it
what you like, but TO_N_FRO would work fine, and will be assumed
as the default selection here;
2) Copy all of the ZIP file or diskettes files to that
sub-directory;
3) The program is ready to run. It can be run from Windows with
no problems.
SETUP FOR TO & FRO!(tm)
1) If you are going to send files to someone, from the DOS
command line or Windows File Manager, copy the files to be
transmitted to the TO_N_FRO\SEND sub-directory. There is a
cooresponding sub-directory, TO_N_FRO\RECEIVE, where files are
stored on reception;
2) Run the TO_N_FRO.EXE program file. The first time program
will setup any remaining requirements;
3) Your Main Menu selections are Send, Receive, Defaults, Quit
and About;
4) If you wish, you can enter Defaults to permanently store:
a) The Receiver's Telephone #? field, with a format of the
number entered to match your local telephone number calling
requirements;
b) If you have a VGA monochrome monitor, you may wish to set the
Display Screen B(lack) & W(hite) field to <Y>;
5) The program includes an auto-detect feature to choose the
fastest port and baud rate for your computer's modem, so unless
you are experiencing problems the fields Communications Port and
Modem Baud Rate: may be left at <0>. However, if your modem
won't initialize try entering the Communications Port number
(1-4) and set the Modem Baud Rate to 19200, and repeat the
receive or transmit;
6) Press <Escape>, then press <F2> to save your changes. Your program is
set up for file transmission!
PREPARING FOR FILE TRANSMISSION:
If you have files waiting in your SEND sub-directory, advise the
receiving party that you are ready to transmit files to them.
Then, press the SEND Main Menu option. If there is a default
Receiver Telephone # you can just press the <Enter> key . Otherwise,
press the <F10> key and enter the number. Once entered, you can
save it by pressing the <F2> key, or just <Enter> to start. The program
will find your modem and set up for maximum transmission speed,
so if the receiver's machine is waiting you don't need to do
anything else unless the program advises you of a transmission
failure. If this happens, simply re-transmit- the programs will
coordinate the transfer of the rest of the files. If the
transmission is successful, the program will prompt you to for
permission to delete the transmitted files in the SEND
sub-directory, and you may do so at your option.
PREPARING FOR FILE RECEPTION:
Once you have been advised of that files are going to be
transmitted to you, from the Main Menu select Receive. The
program will set up your modem for automatic receive, then
coordinate with the sending party to receive the new files,
which will be stored in the RECEIVE sub-directory. Once the
files are received, the program will continue to wait for other
transmissions until you press the u key. NOTE: You can leave
the program in the RECEIVE mode continuously if you like. It
runs fine in the background under Windows.
And, that is that. We hope you enjoy the program!
